A damning report on corruption and maladministration at the Gauteng Liquor Board (GLB) has finally been released — after sitting on former MEC Lebogang Maile’s desk since October last year. The findings confirm what the DA has been saying for years: serious governance failures, corruption risks, and weak enforcement at the GLB. Mike Moriarty MPL welcomes the new MEC’s speed in releasing the report and urges her to urgently implement key recommendations, including: QR-coded liquor licences Real-time public verification systems Automated revenue management tools An independent ethics and whistleblower office The GLB’s failures are hurting the hospitality industry and putting jobs at risk through unlawful trading and social problems in our communities.
