One of the strangest things about growing up is that everyone teaches you how to live.
Your parents, teachers, friends, society, the internet, your phone.
Everyone has an opinion about who you should become. And most of us listen. We listen so well that one day we wake up exhausted, successful, busy, connected...and still ask:
"Why doesn't this feel like my life?"
Because nobody can tell you who you are.
They can only tell you who they think you should be. The only person who knows what excites you, drains you, hurts you, fulfills you, and gives your life meaning is you.
Reflection is how you hear that voice again and Kãla was built exactly for that.
Kãla — The answer is you.

The new HBO documentary series The Dark Wizard is a four-episode limited series about the famous rock climber Dean Potter.
So far, the first episode is incredible. Stunning nature shots and I really relate to some of his inner conflicts. Inspiring thought-provoking material.
As a writer, I loved that they often showed his journal writing & doodling, even though I threw out all of my journals partly so that nobody could have access to them. So is it ethical to use them? I honestly don’t know. But it sure makes the documentary so much richer, and makes Dan look so much more nuanced and sophisticated than just some guy climbing big rocks. We get to meet the (often tortured) artist/philosopher, not just the athlete.

I've failed more times than I've gotten it right. Way more.
Not close either. The ratio is embarrassing if I'm honest.
My only edge? I keep a journal. Not of wins. Of fuckups. Every single one. Date, what happened, what I told myself before it went wrong, what I ignored because I didn't want to see it.
Most people keep highlight reels. I keep a blooper reel. Detailed. Annotated. Going back years now.
Sounds depressing. It's actually the opposite.
Wisdom isn't avoiding the fall. Everyone falls. It's knowing exactly how you twisted your ankle last time. The angle. The step you missed. The warning sign you saw but talked yourself out of.
I got notebooks full of twisted ankles. Bad investments. Relationships I stayed in too long. Projects I should've killed earlier. Conversations I handled wrong. Silences that cost me.
All of it written down. Not to punish myself. To remember.
Because I noticed something: I rarely make the same mistake twice anymore. I make fresh ones. New ones. Creative ones, even.
Hasn't made me graceful. Probably never will.
But I limp in new directions now. And that's something.
