Ghana Launches Conference To Equip Envoys For Reset Agenda:
Ghana has commenced a five-day conference of heads of mission and orientation programme for newly appointed envoys under the theme “Harnessing the Dividends of Diplomacy for Ghana’s Reset Agenda.”
The conference, which runs from September 1 to 5, 2025, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, seeks to equip Ghana’s envoys with the necessary tools to advance the nation’s foreign policy, attract investment, and strengthen global partnerships.
President John Dramani Mahama, in his keynote address, challenged the envoys to prioritize investment promotion in Ghana’s strategic sectors.
“Our envoys must be active agents of Ghana’s transformation by promoting industrialisation, renewable energy, digital services, agro-processing, infrastructure, and tourism. I expect integrity, efficiency, and professionalism in the management of our missions,” the President said.
He also launched Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for Heads of Mission, describing them as a mechanism to ensure accountability and measurable results in Ghana’s diplomatic engagements.
Chairing the ceremony, H.R.M. King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, Ga Mantse, commended the envoys and urged them to elevate Ghana’s international profile.
“This is a shift from ceremonial diplomacy to a result-driven approach. The KPIs will ensure that Ghana’s envoys deliver tangible outcomes in trade, investment, and cultural diplomacy,” he stated.
Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP) highlighted reforms under the Reset Agenda, including 24-hour passport operations, e-tracking with 15-day delivery, labour mobility agreements, the establishment of new missions, and the creation of a Delivery Unit to monitor compliance with KPIs.
“The Ministry will continue to provide the needed support to ensure our envoys succeed in their mandate,” Ablakwa assured.
Also in attendance were Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the Chief of Defence Staff, and other senior government officials.
