🩸Blood diamonds, also known as conflict diamonds, are gemstones mined in war zones and sold to finance armed conflict against governments. Their trade has fueled violence, human rights abuses, and exploitation, particularly in parts of Africa. Today, initiatives like the Kimberley Process aim to prevent their circulation, promoting ethical sourcing and transparency. Always choose certified diamonds to support responsible practices. #BloodDiamonds #ConflictDiamonds #EthicalJewelry #KimberleyProcess #ResponsibleSourcing #Gemology #SustainableLuxury

💎 The Kimberley Process, Protecting the Diamond Industry from Conflict Diamonds - - Diamonds are symbols of love, commitment, and celebration. But in the past, some diamonds were used to finance armed conflicts. - To stop this problem, the global diamond industry created an important system called the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme. The Kimberley Process currently includes 80 participating countries - - These participants represent more than 99% of the global rough diamond trade. - Before the Kimberley Process began, conflict diamonds were estimated to represent around 15% of global supply. - Today, conflict diamonds are estimated to be less than 1% of the global market. This system helps ensure that diamonds sold in the global market are conflict-free. - The Kimberley Process (often called KP) is an international certification system that tracks rough diamonds from the mine to the global market. It was launched in 2003 to prevent the trade of diamonds that finance wars or rebel groups. The system focuses on rough diamonds before they are cut and polished. Key rules include: Rough diamonds must be shipped in sealed containers. Each shipment must carry an official Kimberley Process certificate. - Member countries can only trade rough diamonds with other KP member countries. This process helps create a transparent supply chain for diamonds.
