The #KimberleyProcess meets in plenary next week in #Dubai when a new definition of a "conflict diamond" looks likely to be approved. The new definition will expand the existing definition which is limited to rough diamonds linked to rebel violence to include other diamonds, polished as well as rough, that are linked to human rights violations by other groups including government forces. However, they must first be sanctioned by the UN Security Council. This will mean that the industry and jewellers can continue to launder $billions of Israeli blood diamonds as the US will use its veto to block sanctions on Israel. If the new definition is approved the diamond industry will promote this as a major advancement that offers consumers increased assurance about the ethical provenance of diamonds at the consumer end of the supply chain. The Kimberley Process has a triparteid structure which includes member states with voting rights and industry representative and civil society groups with observer status. The KP Civil Society Coalition is supposed to represent communities impacted by the diamond industry. In 2024 the CSC belatedly made a glancing reference linking Israel's polished diamonds to funding human rights violations. Despite the on-going diamond-funded genocide in Palestine in 2025 the CSS has so far failed to mention diamonds from Israel funding human rights violations. This is strange considering how quick the CSC was to call for sanctions on Russian diamonds in the wake of the Russian invasion of Eastern Ukraine. In its latest promo video ahead of next weeks plenary meeting the CSC puts the spotlight firmly on f African countries where far less serious human rights violation can be linked to the diamond industry. The failure of the CSC to call out Israel's diamond-funded genocide highlight just how captured the organisation is. The slaughter of tens of thousands of besieged, defenceless, homeless and deliberately starved Palestinians in the Gaza concentration camp doesn't merit a mention as far as the KPCSC is concerned. Despite being the community most severly immpacted by the diamond industry not a single Palestinian voice is represented about the KP table. With no one to speak for them and raise their voice the diamond industry can continue to profit form the trade in Israeli diamonds while the #BDS movement focuses on fast food chains and soft drinks which of course should be boycotted but which, unlike the diamond industry, have very little impact on the Isrseli economy which is the primary source of funding for the genocidal fascist and apartheid Zionist project in Palestine. WITNESS THE WHITEWASH This is how to cover up a diamond-funded genocide. The KPCSC is a captured organisation and functions to keep attention focused on African countries while the far more lucrative end of the value chain evades regulation. #GazaGenocide #BDS #KimberleyProcess @BDSmovement
Over 20 years ago, the #KimberleyProcess (KP) was established by a United Nations resolution to prevent diamonds from fueling conflict. Yet, today,  serious abuses and governance challenges continue to stain diamond supply chains. November 2025 marks the end of the KP’s current reform cycle - a crucial moment to revise the definition of “conflict diamonds” and finally address ongoing human suffering in diamond affected communities. As a pillar of the KP, the Civil Society Coalition urges participating states to reject cosmetic changes and adopt a definition of ‘conflict diamonds’ that covers diamonds associated with widespread or systematic violence and serious violations of human rights, regardless of whether they are committed by rebel groups, criminals, terrorists, private or public security forces or governmental actors. 🎥 Watch our video here 🔗 youtu.be/71M1mHL_PWA A video produced by @MaraBragaglia #Diamonds #BeyondShiningIllusions #KimberleyProcess

#Diamant #Diamond #ResponsibleMining #ResponsibleSourcing #KPCSC #Governance

Natural resources should build peace - not fund conflict. In eastern #DRC, natural resources still fuel violence & smuggling. Without traceability & accountability, the cycle continues. We must track resources from mine to market. #KPCSC #ConflictMinerals #EthicalSourcing #DRC

From 17th to 19th March 2025, @Abu_Brima represented the Kimberley Process Civil Society Coalition #KPCSC at the 5th Assembly of the African Organization of Public Accounts Committees #AFROPAC2025 in Kampala, Uganda. Bringing together representatives of 20 countries the meeting focussed on« Illicit financial flows and fostering public financial resilience ». The Coalition intended to raise the voices of communities who are paying a high price for illicit financial flows linked to minerals including diamonds. Abu Brima called on the authorities to fully include affected communities in discussions about mineral resources and their exploitation as they are the first victims of rights violations and corruption practices. #AFROPAC2025
