It was made by flint knapping the crystal, you basically use a giant rock to break the crystal or as is often the case the obsidian glass which comes off in layers then you use a deer antler to create an edge like you see here. It takes time and practice but it’s not complicated

The jawbone handle is pretty cool. Flint knapping is fascinating. It really is an art.

Buddies place down in south Texas has them all over the place. Lipon Apache area. Lots of flint. Looks similar. I believe it’s called knapping done on the edges 🤔 Just sit back and enjoy the history journey 👍🏻

Flint knapping is one of my guilty pleasures. I will watch videos of people smacking two rocks together for hours and still not understand how it works.

Scientists wrangle over the uncertainties of every model they use beginning with the Standard Model in physics and extending to the various flint knapping models they have for stone age tools. The changing models are based on real world observations which are refined over time.

7/ There is so much more that can be written about this place. I'll end this thread for now. There's a lot of other topics that are just as interesting. The cisterns. The previously mentioned flints knapping. The apparent "skull cult" that operated here with "sky burials" involving vultures. How this fits into the broader Taş Tepeler collection of 11 other contemporary sites each one with their own symbolism and questions. Göbekli Tepe challenged our ideas of what "civilization" meant to the ancients and showed how complex and ancient it truly was. Cheers.
