Hon. Sanjay Tanna: The Unsung Hero Who Changed
@NRMOnline's Fortunes in Eastern Uganda
Hon
@STanna444’s name is well-known across many homes, businesses, political groups, and social circles—not because he’s a business mogul, but mainly because of his energetic efforts in rallying support for NRM Candidates and President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. During the 2021 general elections in Bukedi, Hon. Sanjay Tanna played a vital role as a dedicated supporter, actively mobilising votes for President
@KagutaMuseveni by engaging with communities in ghettos, garages, universities, and among youth groups.
He also worked tirelessly in Kapchorwa-Sebei, Bugisu, and Bukedi, often using his own resources to oppose the wave of support for the National Unity Platform (
@NUP_Ug) that threatened NRM’s success in the national elections.
In the 2022 Soroti City East by-election, where
@FDCOfficial1’s Moses Attan competed against NRM’s Edmund Ariko, Hon. Sanjay Tanna was specially invited to join NRM leaders who had gathered in Teso City. He travelled across tertiary institutions, engaged with the business community, and rallied the Central Business District enthusiasts. Thanks to these efforts, the NRM candidate emerged victorious in that closely contested race.
Looking ahead to 2026, under the Non-Partisan Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), Sanjay Tanna, as the Eastern Region Coordinator, invested his own funds to support President Museveni’s campaign, and the positive results are clearly visible.
Recognising his business expertise, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources appointed Sanjay as Chairman of the Board of Directors for Kilembe Mines.
But it’s worth asking: Does this appointment truly reflect Sanjay Tanna’s extensive experience, dedication to the NRM party, and the financial sacrifices he has made in mobilising for NRM and HE President Yoweri Kaguta?
I kindly request the President to look at what could be a suitable for him, a ministerial role for this dedicated NRM supporter, investor, financier, and mobilizer.
Hon. Tanna represents a segment of Ugandans of Indian descent who have played a significant role in driving the economy through various investments and are key taxpayers. Although they have enjoyed the space to conduct business, Ugandan Indians are not yet well represented in the country's political management.
Appointing Tanna to a ministerial position would be a meaningful recognition of the crucial contributions Ugandan Indians have made towards economic growth—creating jobs, supporting youth employment, and adding value to our local products.
His international experience is also a major advantage, especially for ministries involved with foreign investors, tourism, and manufacturing.
For example, on January 31, 2026, the Lohana International Business Forum (LIBF), a global organisation, honoured Hon. Sanjay Tanna for his ongoing efforts in community development, social harmony, and inclusive growth—demonstrating a lifelong commitment to serving society.
This award, presented at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai, highlights Tanna’s international exposure—an asset that could be highly beneficial in a ministerial role.
