LYME DISEASE is often overlooked, misdiagnosed, inadequately treated. Most doctors are not specialized in LD and have no idea on how to best treat a patient beyond the typical regimen of Doxycycline. Insurance companies often do not cover seeing an LLD (Lyme Literate Doctor) which can make such a visit too expensive for many patients. LLDs work outside the CDC standard, which puts them at odds with most insurance companies. I advice seeking alternative treatment if you have the chronic form of LD or anything lasting more than a few weeks. It might take months if not years to be diagnosed with Lyme Disease. In recent years, doctors have become more aware of this far reaching illness, however the regular treatment options are still very limited. There are good online support groups that one should check out - at their own risk - but you will find valuable information.

Kevin, generally two weeks doxycycline. Some do 2x per day, some 3x. Unfortunately, ticks also often carry co-infections as well. E.g. babesiosis, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, etc. Different protocols for those. See a Lyme-literate doctor (LLD). LLDs typically prescribe doxy while waiting for blood work to return, including ELISA and Western blot. But these tests need to be done after time enough for any infection to develop. bullseye rash is far less common than most people think. Sometimes no rash or just a weird general rash.
