Government of India will develop 11 new Integrated Land Ports over the next 2–3 years, with Bengal emerging as the focal point of the expansion. The initiative is aimed at strengthening trade and connectivity with Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan while enhancing infrastructure along the strategically vital Siliguri Corridor, the narrow link connecting mainland India to the Northeast.
The Land Ports Authority of India stated that trade through land ports has surged from ₹5,000 crore in 2014 to around ₹83,000 crore today. Alongside new ports, the government has launched the LPMS "Vinimay" digital platform to streamline customs, cargo clearance and border operations. The push is expected to boost regional trade, improve logistics efficiency and reinforce national security in East India.
