From 9 March 2026, all learners must show proof they’re insured to drive the car used for their driving test (own or instructor’s). Bring an insurance certificate or insurer letter.
No valid proof on the day = no test, and you’ll lose your test fee.

• Scenario-based video clips will replace some traditional questions, testing real-life driving decision-making
• Hazard perception section expands to include bad weather, night driving, and more complex conditions
• New focus on eco-driving and electric vehicle safety awareness
• Theory test will incorporate 2025 Highway Code updates on pedestrian and cyclist priority
• New DVSA booking system will track learner progress and allow easier rebooking
• Learners who don’t pass their practical within two years of passing theory will need to retake under the new format
