WE SEE YOU ON YOUR PHONE. LEAVE IT ALONE. 📱🚫🚗 As a driver, your responsibility is to focus on the road so you can react to changing conditions. An attentive driver takes about 1.5 seconds to react to a situation on the roadway. When you’re distracted, that reaction time can double. Everyone can help prevent distracted driving: • Put your phone in the trunk, glove box, or back seat so you aren’t tempted to use it • Turn your phone off or on Do Not Disturb • Pull over safely before using your phone • As a passenger, speak up if the driver reaches for their phone • If you’re texting someone who’s driving, wait until they arrive safely Your message can wait. Your safety and everyone else’s cannot. #LeaveThePhoneAlone #DontTextAndDrive #OttawaPolice @TimTierney

⚠️ Plan ahead. 📵Put the phone away. 🚫Never drive impaired. Crashes involving alcohol and/or drugs are a leading criminal cause of death in Canada. Impaired driving doesn’t only apply to vehicles on the road. It includes boats, snowmobiles, ATVs, and other motorized transportation. However, impairment comes in many forms - alcohol, drugs, fatigue, and distraction. Any level of impairment can put you, your passengers, and others at serious risk. #centralregionopp officers are committed to protecting road, trail, and waterway safety, but safety starts with the decisions YOU make before you drive. #DoNotDisturb There is a simple yet powerful solution to prevent tragedies caused by distracted driving: enable the Do Not Disturb feature on your mobile device before you get in your car. Just as we silence our phones before a flight, we should do the same to protect ourselves and others on the road. This small action can help prevent crashes, fatalities, injuries, and heartbreak. Don’t stop there—encourage your family and friends to activate Do Not Disturb. bit.ly/3WIVF6Z Because we care . . . #SilenceWhileDriving #DriveWithoutDistractions #DNDChallenge #FocusOnDriving #LeaveThePhoneAlone
