The first step to #legislationascode is conceptually sound policy. Writing the code helps prove the concept model but isn’t so good at forming it. Hard to explain - much easier to show. I suspect we need to organise you a virtual workshop.

Machine-consumable legislation - it started in NZ, spread to NSW, now taken up by Australia's central govt. British Islands jurisdictions will be discussing it in June. Momentum building. #LegislationAsCode #MachineConsumableLegislation

Avidly following this thread on #Policy and #LegislationAsCode kicked off by @EdNZ - I feel an unconference coming on!
Certainly, that’s how an #InternetofRules works. The Lichen component, integrated into any system, allows users decide. Note: I’m talking about commercial policy automation. This is my area of focus, as it’s where all the economic loss occurs. Internetofrules.org

Codification of law turns out to be an issue in church law too. Interesting parallels to whether codification might finally start making headway in common law jurisdictions as result of digital developments in #LegislationAsCode. Might we see apps consuming/executing canon law?!?
Catholics don’t appreciate what a novel project the CODIFICATION of canon law was and still is. Hardly 5% of Church history has been spent under a CODE, this, after many centuries of using a basically ‘administrative / common law’ type system of canon law. Lots to figure out yet.

Important point for IT folk working on common ontologies for #LegislationAsCode . Good to use concepts shared btwn laws, but must take care about contexts, incl different types of laws, ptic when made by difft bodies & with difft consequences.
