NCERT organized a programme on ‘Information Literacy for the Users of the NCERT Library and its Constituent Units’ on the occasion of Librarian’s Day.
The programme was graced by Prof. Dinesh Prasad Saklani, Director, NCERT, and Dr. Akash, Head and Librarian, LDD, along with team members from Springer.
The main objective of the programme was to highlight the economic, social, and legal aspects of information usage, emphasizing the ethical use and quality of library resources.
The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Akash, Head and Librarian, LDD.
In his keynote address, Prof. Dinesh Prasad Saklani, Director, NCERT, emphasized that the programme would enhance users’ awareness about the library's services. He noted that regular visitors to the library will benefit from updated and enriched services. He also paid tribute to Dr. S.R. Ranganathan, commemorating Librarian’s Day in his honor, and recognizing him as the father of library science in India.
Prof. Saklani reiterated that libraries are not just for school students, but are a critical resource for teachers and research scholars. He stressed the importance of maximizing the use of libraries, which are accessible both online and offline, and serve as a bridge between information and its users.
In the next session, Dr. Akash demonstrated various services initiated by the Library System of NCERT, including NCERT eLibrary, NCERT Sodh Patrika Sangrah, NCERT-ONOS Access, and NCERT Sakshisk Gyankosh. The Springer team provided a briefing on how to access journals and e-books, and also conducted a demonstration on how to publish with Springer. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Pooja Jain, Assistant Librarian and Programme Coordinator, LDD, NCERT.
