Something I think about a lot as father. We’re asking our kids the wrong question. “What do you want to be?” We should be asking: “How do you want to live?” That single shift changes everything. A kid says, “I want to be a teacher.” Then they describe the life they dream of: vacations in Rome, a big house, a Porsche in the driveway. Reality hits hard. Being a teacher is noble, but it probably won’t deliver that life. We have it completely backwards. We let the job choose the lifestyle instead of letting the desired lifestyle choose the job. When you’re lying on your deathbed, no one will remember you for the job you had.
