ALT Lightning Rod and Belfry on Meteora, Greece ⚡️🔔 This is a shot of an “ESE lightning rod“ along with a cross-crowned belfry at the monastery of St. Nicholas Anapafsās in Meteora, Greece; ESE stands for ‘Early Streamer Emission’. The pointed lightning rod complies with the NF C 17-102 standard issued by the AFNOR (French standardisation body). A thick copper conductor (seen on the ground below) serves as earth wire. The monastery appears well protected. The Meteora rock formations were formed sixty million years ago; they are geologically unique and listed in UNESCO world heritage sites. St. Nicholas Anapafsās’s monastery dates back to the 14th century and is famous for the exquisite frescoes painted by Theophanes the Cretan in 1527.
