If I had to start my freelance career as a social media manager,
Here's what I should do to land my first international client on REDDIT
In less than 8 Weeks,
And FOR FREE
๐๐พ
STEP 1: WARMUP MY ACCOUNT:
Week 1: join beginner friendly subreddits. Here's the full list:
reddit.com/r/NewToReddit/w/iโฆ
From day 5, start leaving a few comments here and there โ nothing too much, just 2 to 4 a day to keep it natural.
Week 2: upvotes and dropping meaningful comments everyday. Between 7-8.
Weeks 3-4: Upvote posts and dropping meaningful comments every day โ aim for 10 to 15.
Spend time browsing the subreddits in social media marketing
No need to join, just observe.
Pay close attention to the comments that get the most upvotes and start noticing what they have in common โ
the tone, the length, the way they're structured.
STEP 2: START ENGAGING:
Weeks 5-6: By this point, my account should be at least 30 days old and have a minimum of 100 karma.
Join the following subreddits:
A-the ones I promote social media management services like :
r/freelanceforhire
r/B2bforhire
r/hireforgigs
r/hiring
r/lookingforjobs
r/forhirefreelance
r/forhire2
r/anywherejobs
r/remoteworkers
r/Atljobs
r/donedirtcheap
r/Austin jobs
r/remotejobs
r/torontojobs
r/Detroit jobs
And more niche subreddits like :
r/creatorservices
r/virtual assistant4hire
r/sidejobs
r/remoteworks(mainly to find opportunities not to promote)
Avoid jumping into large communities like r/forhire or r/slavelabour too soon โ the rules and moderators are strict, and there's a real chance your account gets shadowbanned before you even get to post anything .
Post on these groups twice a week.
B- Join the following subreddits and show up there with genuinely helpful comments.
r/socialmediamansgers
r/socialmediamarketing
r/digitalmarketing
r/content marketing
r/socialmedia
r/small business
r/Ask marketing
r/creatorsadvice
r/founder
r/Instagrammarketing
r/growthHacking
r/ content creators
r/linkedintips
r/twitter
Drop 10-15 comments per day in these communities.
Have your portfolio and resume ready
Look at the educational posts that are already winning in your niche โ
notice what makes them work, then use those same patterns to build your own.
Aim to have two posts ready before next week.
Week 7 : This week, go back to the communities where you've been dropping comments and start posting.
Keep showing up and sharing value
By now, you should be seeing some DMs coming in.
Some of those conversations will turn into paying clients, so stay responsive and keep the momentum going.
If you sell your services on fiver don't send the link directly in DM .
Put the link in a Google doc instead.
On payments โ never accept money through Telegram.
If PayPal isn't available in your country, set up a Fiverr or Upwork account.
Both platforms support Payoneer, which works in most countries and keeps everything secure and professional.
