Local Government Autonomy: Oke Ogun Monarch Urges Tinubu, Makinde to Act for Grassroots Development
The Olokaka of Okaka in Oke Ogun, Oba Olatunji Ayoola, has called on
@officialABAT and Oyo State Governor, Engr.
@seyimakinde, to fully implement local government autonomy, stressing that it is key to driving sustainable development at the grassroots level.
The revered monarch made the appeal during the 2025 edition of the Okaka Egungun Festival held at the historic Oja Sango (Sango Market Square). The festival, marked by ancestral rites and a symbolic light rainfall — which Oba Ayoola described as a sign of ancestral approval — featured a ritual goat sacrifice and vibrant cultural displays.
In his address, the Olokaka commended the visible progress recorded in Okaka, highlighting landmark projects such as the construction of a police station on Okaka-Otu Road and the installation of a new power transformer. He attributed these achievements to the unity and generous contributions of Okaka sons and daughters both at home and in the diaspora.
Oba Ayoola further advocated for greater involvement of traditional rulers in governance, noting that their deep-rooted connection with the people makes them vital to national development and effective grassroots leadership.
The festival attracted distinguished indigenes of Okaka, including Hon. Kola Olabiyi, a former member of the House of Representatives, who joined other guests and community leaders in celebrating the town’s rich Yoruba cultural heritage. Spectacular appearances by iconic masquerades like Alapala, Ajise, Ahuda, Dangboro, Alapala Efe, Ilokoja, and Jigbanjigban added grandeur to the event.
The monarch concluded with a call for all Okaka natives, especially those in the diaspora, to remain committed to the town’s progress. He emphasized that unity and collective effort remain the bedrock of Okaka’s continued development.
