🌊 Happy World Oceans Day! Around 80% of all life on Earth depends on the #ocean, and over 3 billion people rely on it for food and livelihoods. That's why protecting it is a responsibility we all share. People often ask how I stay connected to so many ocean initiatives worldwide. The honest answer? I put a lot of effort behind the scenes, but I also take opportunities as they arise in the present moment. Whenever I travel, whether to a bustling city or a remote coastline, I make it a point to seek out the people and organizations on the front lines of ocean conservation. More often than not, they welcome you with open arms. The excitement is mutual! One of my most treasured experiences was three years ago on Providencia Island in the Colombian Caribbean. We were deep into our NatGeo-funded project, 'Re-purposing Sargassum in the Caribbean', when @coralesdepaz invited me to spend a day planting nursery-grown #corals and restoring local #reefs alongside Laura Rodríguez (local marine expert). They knew my background in coral conservation and wanted to exchange knowledge. What I shared in coral expertise, they gave back tenfold in local knowledge and community wisdom. The learning truly goes both ways. Always. Wherever you are — your city, your fieldwork, your holiday — there are local ocean guardians near you. Find them. Help them. You'll contribute something real, and you'll gain something even more valuable: a living bond with the place and the people protecting it. That's the magic. 💙 #Caribbean #Colombia #Providencia #SanAndrés #SantaCatalina #Corals #CoralConservation #CoralRestoration #EnvironmentalStewardship #LocalKnowledge #CoralesDePaz @ParquesColombia @coralina_sai @NatGeo @InsideNatGeo

✨What a blessing it was last week!✨ Crossing paths again with a very dear friend, connecting with heart-centered people, and much unexpected healing❤💚💙All reasons to be deeply grateful. All, thanks to the love, ‘medicine’, and wisdom that the people brought during our time together. I arrived in Kansas feeling relaxed, yet somehow nervous.😅 But why?🤷🏻‍♀️Because I always dreamed of speaking at a conference about my experiential reflections rather than just my scientific findings… I guess I was too focused on hardcore science and forgot along the way that the one doing this work (ME) has lots of love, emotions (joy but also trauma), and wisdom to share. I told myself, ‘Remember to be a storyteller and go with the flow, don't play the distant, scientific character you are portraying when talking in a conference.’ But little did I know how many intimate parts of my life journey I would share… or how emotional I would get hearing stories that resonated so deeply with me.... I am very happy that others also showed their vulnerability, and that we all created a safe space to be ourselves. Thank you, @NatGeo Society's Education and Community Engagement Division, for the opportunity to contribute to the 1st Principles in Practice: Community Engagement Symposium, organized at the #HaskellIndianNationsUniversity. I am deeply grateful for the invitation to speak on ‘Co-Creating With Communities and Centering Local & Indigenous Knowledge,’ drawing on learnings from our NatGeo-funded project ‘Re-purposing #Sargassum in the #Caribbean.’ Also, gracias a tod@s who made this experience so lovely and healing! Strengthening Farmers’ Associations through Sustainable Agriculture in Ghindae In Mai Adkemom, within the Ghindae Sub‑zone of #Eritrea’s Northern Red Sea Region, a community‑driven initiative supported through the UNDP @GEF_SGP is strengthening farmers’ capacities to promote sustainable and inclusive agricultural practices. The project supported a Farmers’ Association of 56 members, including 13 women and 6 persons with disabilities, to improve horticulture and citrus production through the establishment of three Farmer Field Schools dedicated to citrus, vegetable, and poultry production. These field schools served as practical learning platforms, enabling farmers to access organic agricultural inputs and apply climate‑smart and environmentally sustainable farming methods. Beyond direct beneficiary support, the project functioned as a hands‑on knowledge‑sharing hub for experts and newly assigned agricultural extension workers from the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), as well as members of other local farmers’ associations. Through practical demonstrations and peer learning, participants strengthened their skills in producing and applying bio‑fertilizers and bio‑pesticides, adopting safe and high‑quality fruit and vegetable production practices, and constructing soil and water conservation structures. By integrating #localknowledge with evidence-based #sustainableinnovations, the Ghindae SGP project contributes to enhanced agricultural productivity, #ecosystemprotection, and #strengthenedcommunity resilience through the inclusive participation of beneficiaries and local stakeholders. @UNDPEritrea

@CRPaatil @AmitShah #WaterConservation #TraditionalWaterWisdom #JalSanchay #SustainableWater #CommunityParticipation #JalHiJeevanHai #WaterSecurity #LocalKnowledge #IKS @IKS_Media
जल संरक्षण हम सबका दायित्व है। हमें जल को केवल उपयोग की वस्तु के रूप में न देखकर, आने वाली पीढ़ियों की अमूल्य धरोहर के रूप में देखना चाहिए।

Across India, traditional greens once packed with nutrition — from chakwat and poi to bathua and kulfa — are being replaced by a handful of commercial vegetables. With them, we’re also losing local knowledge, seasonal eating habits, and biodiversity. Tell us the name of a forgotten saag from your childhood and how it was cooked at home. Let’s document these flavours before they vanish! #TraditionalGreens #SeasonalEating #Biodiversity #ForgottenSaag #LocalKnowledge [Traditional Greens India, Seasonal Eating Habits, Forgotten Saag, Local Indian Vegetables, Biodiversity in Farming]
