China unveiled the prototype of its first ultra-long-lifetime carbon-14 nuclear battery in east China's Jiangsu on Sunday. An LED lamp powered by the battery has been operating continuously for nearly four months, emitting over 35,000 pulses.
The battery boasts extreme temperature tolerance ranging from -100℃ to 200℃ and an ultra-high energy density of 2200mWh/g, with an expected performance degradation rate of less than 5% over 50 years.
It can provide a permanent energy source for brain-computer interfaces, pacemakers, and other implantable devices, or serve as a continuous power supply for explorations in extreme environments on Earth and deep space. Source:People's Daily, China #China#Chinese#longlifetime#battery
