Gospel values are a ‘way in’ to the Gospel, without which the Catholic MAT loses its identity. Virtues should function in the same way, but if secular ‘performance’ virtues are foregrounded then the focus on the Gospel can easily be lost. #matceo #leadership

Schools in a Catholic MAT serve the mission of the Church in a local community and are often the only form of church experienced by the young people. And it is generally a positive encounter with church. As such, they should enjoy wholehearted support from the diocese. #matceo

One danger facing the MAT system is that the Board takes a corporate view of the ‘company’ and views declining schools as inefficient branches which can be coldly closed. We need to be ‘business like’, yes, and accountable for public money, but we are not a business. #matceo

In any MAT, especially one that is being stabilised and repaired, you need to start by re-animating the why, the cause, the purpose. What is our vision for education in the 21st century? In a Catholic MAT, you are not starting that process with a blank slate. #matceo #leadership
