#MajorDevelopments Israel-Somaliland Security Ties and Their Regional Implications As I mentioned previously, the military agreement between Israel and Somaliland has existed for some time, and Israeli security and intelligence agencies have reportedly been operating from the Berbera base for a while under the cover of UAE base. What is happening now is that Israel is signaling to the region and the wider world that it is fully present in Somaliland. The visit of the Somaliland leader is largely a formality and symbolic in nature, but it also grants legitimacy to Israel, which could potentially lead to other risks and consequences. The security and military agreements between Israel and Somaliland will have a significant impact on all Gulf states, Egypt, Yemen, Somalia, Djibouti, Iran, and the two strategic straits of Bab el-Mandeb and Hormuz.
