🌍@Code4Africa, the @pulitzercenter, and @EarthGenome are launching Africa Mining Watch, a groundbreaking tool that leverages satellite imagery and artificial intelligence to detect mining operations across the African continent. 👉 To mark the occasion, twenty journalists were invited to take part in an exclusive online mapathon focused on West Africa and the Congo Basin, held on April 22, 2026. 🎙️@alexabdelilah, journalist at Forbidden Stories, explained how @EarthGenome's AI model helped map illegal gold mining in Ghana for our cross-border investigation “Toxic Gold” published with our partners @fourthestategh and @reporters_co. Combining satellite imagery from 2024 and Earth Genome’s AI model, we were able to pinpoint the areas most affected by mining in southwest Ghana.
