A7: Making sure resources for internships and leadership opportunities are clearly communicated. For example, Claude Moore Community Builders provides amazing opportunities to grow future leaders. Students need adults from their community to encourage them. #MasonMathEdChat
A7 One of my resource for the last three years has been @SOlympicsVA global messenger, Alex Burns. Alex is now attending college and has autism. He speaks to all students in grades K-5 and inspires all of our scholars. @BurnsSpeaks#MasonMathEdChat
A6: I would ask the Ss what they want the opportunity to do before deciding what to offer but think offering these activities is an important step toward equity #MasonMathEdChat
A5: GooseChase: Students can do "sccavenger hunts" and answer questions, take video of a concept, take a picture showing the definition of a term. They can analyse projectile motion using APPS on their phones and collect data samples on phones as well. #MasonMathEdChat
A4:I have lived and worked abroad (Paraguay, Turkey, Thailand). I have traveled quite extensively as well.... I believe training in cultural competency should include getting to understand your own bias and the lens you look through. #MasonMathEdChat
A4 It might include more information about the differences some scholar's families have from others. Scholars who live in homes where English is not the first language may have a different experience in school than native English speakers. #MasonMathEdChat
A3: I would like to work to give every student the supports they need to succeed and I want to expose Ss to untold stories in History that include people who have had different experiences #MasonMathEdChat
First, I would agree with them about how hard it is to work with scholars who have needs that seem to overwhelm them. Seek all the supports you can and talk to as many teachers as you can to learn more strategies. #MasonMathEdChat
#MasonMathEdChat I think the way you build trust, not only among a grade level, but in a building is administration leading by example. When administration trusts their educators an entire building wants to do better and be more it shows to all.
A1 I thank colleagues when they are honest and share constructive criticism. I try to avoid gossip. I ask them about their boundaries. I tell them that I've got their back and offer solutions to problems I see. #MasonMathEdChat
