Midyear Climate Summit kicks off today in Bonn, Germany
Today is the first day of
#SB64 in Bonn, Germany, and for the next two weeks, climate negotiators from around the world will be poring over various issues to define the agenda for
#COP31 in Turkey in November.
We revisit 5 key events that defined last year’s SB62:
✅Agenda impasse: For more than two days, the Parties failed to adopt the agenda of the conference, after some developing countries added ‘‘contentious’’ items to the agenda
✅GGA deadlock: Parties clashed over the
#meansofimplementation, struggled to agree on the exact number, structure of indicators
✅Just Transition Progress: The Belem Action Mechanism (BAM) was proposed, but negotiators failed to reach a definitive arrangement
✅The Finance quicksand: A lack of formal agenda items on
#climatefinance bred frustration. Parties held informal discussions on the broader Baku to Belém Roadmap
✅Gender goals: SB62 resulted in a draft Gender Action Plan (GAP), adopted at COP30 as the Belém Gender Action Plan (2026–2034)
@PowerShftAfrica is in Bonn, and starting today, we will bring news updates and analyses of the events here, and what they mean for
