News Flashback (In Case You Missed It)
Beneil Dariush reveals concerning injury just hours before UFC Perth co-headliner
UFC lightweight contender Beneil Dariush will enter his upcoming co-main event bout vs. Quillan Salkilld with a freak injury.
UFC lightweight veteran Beneil Dariush could potentially fight for the final time this weekend at UFC Perth. Dariush will square off with streaking prospect Quillan Salkilld in the UFC Perth main event just before the highly-anticipated Jack Della Maddalena vs. Carlos Prates headliner.
Ahead of what could be his final fight before he hangs up the gloves, Dariush is highly motivated to stop Salkilld’s rise and add another victory to his highlight reel. He’s seeking his first win since outpointing Renato Moicano at UFC 317 last year.
As fighters go through the grind of a training camp, bumps and bruises are common, especially for those getting ready for five-rounders. But just hours ahead of his fight at UFC Perth, Dariush is suffering from an unusual injury that could impact his performance in the cage this weekend.
Beneil Dariush is set to enter UFC Perth with an eye injury that could impact fight outcome
In a recent interview with Submission Radio, the interviewer noticed one of Dariush’s eyes was swollen, and pressed the lightweight on what happened.
“It keeps happening,” Dariush said of his eye injury.
“It happened, I think was Saturday. I don’t know if it was a bumped head or I got hit in the side of the eye, and I’ve been kind of stressing out about it, and then last night I’m training, and I get a fingernail right here to the side of it, and it swelled up.
“So, they’re minor things, not a big deal, but it is what it is. It just keeps happening.” (h/t Bloody Elbow)
If Salkilld lands a clean punch early in Round 1, Dariush could be at an immediate disadvantage at UFC Perth. But Dariush seems game to prove his trademark toughness this weekend inside the Octagon. (Credit: BJ Penn, Submission Radio, with A.I News)

UFC Perth: Betting Odds (For reference, data and educational purposes)
Notable trends: Betting odds suggest potential for multiple early finishes across the card (heavyweight bouts and Salkilld fight especially). Always compare lines across sportsbooks (e.g., DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM) for best value, and consider props like method of victory or rounds.
Welterweight Main Event: Jack Della Maddalena vs. Carlos Prates
Della Maddalena (-105 to -110) vs. Prates (-105 to -120) Near pick'em. Prates is a heavy striker on a KO streak; JDM is the durable former champ with home advantage. Many expect fireworks (Under 2.5 rounds favored in some spots).
Lightweight: Beneil Dariush vs. Quillan Salkilld Dariush ( 300 to 370) vs. Salkilld (-400 to -485) Salkilld (young, undefeated in recent fights) is a big favorite. High chance of early finish.
Flyweight: Tim Elliott vs. Steve Erceg Elliott ( 145 to 225 / moved heavily due to sharp bets) vs. Erceg (-170 to -250)
Significant line movement toward Elliott ( 155 favorite in some reports) after big money came in. Erceg remains favorite for many, but volatility here.
Heavyweight: Shamil Gaziev vs. Brando Pericic Gaziev ( 110) vs. Pericic (-140) Striking-heavy matchup; early finish expected.
Heavyweight: Tai Tuivasa vs. Louie Sutherland Tuivasa (-175 to -184) vs. Sutherland ( 142)
Tuivasa on a long losing streak but favored against a fellow striker.
Prelims (selected) Cam Rowston vs. Robert Bryczek Junior Tafa vs. Kevin Christian Jacob Malkoun vs. Gerald Meerschaert (Malkoun heavy favorite ~ -1000) Colby Thicknesse vs. Vince Morales

Ciryl Gane's Sharp Sparring Session Builds Hype for Pereira Clash
The video from MMA Factory Paris shows Gane's elite footwork and striking defense against undefeated Cuban pro Perez, who holds a 16-0 record with 14 KOs. Fans and Aljamain Sterling praise Gane's skills, noting his only UFC loss was a quick submission to Jon Jones, as he prepares for an interim heavyweight title fight against Alex Pereira on June 14 at UFC White House in Washington, D.C. Opinions split on the matchup, with backers highlighting Gane's agility against Pereira's power and kicks, while his camp includes kickboxer Artem Vakhitov, who once beat Pereira.

Jones On Usman and Lesnar
UFC legend Jon Jones took issue with former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman siding with Brock Lesnar in a potential wrestling match.
Former two-division UFC champion Jon Jones remains at odds with Dana White and the matchmakers after he was excluded from a spot on the upcoming White House card. Despite announcing his retirement from MMA last summer, Jones quickly reversed course when U.S. President Donald Trump announced the UFC’s upcoming card on the White House lawn.
Jones was briefly linked to a potential showdown against either Alex Pereira or Tom Aspinall, but according to Jones, he was ‘lowballed’ financially by the UFC. He hasn’t fought since finishing Stipe Miocic at UFC 309, in what would end up being his first and only heavyweight title defense.
After asking for his UFC release and hinting at another MMA retirement, Jones could potentially return in another combat sport. Jones has briefly teased a potential wrestling match with two-time UFC rival Daniel Cormier in Real American Freestyle.
Jon Jones issues guarantee to Kamaru Usman after Usman picks Brock Lesnar
Amidst talks of Jones competing in wrestling, former UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman was asked for his prediction in a hypothetical matchup between former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar and Jones. Usman sided with Lesnar’s girth and overall strength to get the better of Jones on the mats.
In a recent Instagram story post, Jones responded to Usman’s prediction. (BJ Penn with A.I)

Barbosa Wins Controversial Flyweight Bout After Illegal Soccer Kick
At UFC Vegas 115 in Las Vegas, Barbosa earned a majority decision over Gatto in a women's flyweight prelim marked by the illegal Round 2 kick, ruled legal enough to proceed despite Gatto briefly appearing out cold. Fighters like Jeff Molina called it dangerous, warning 'this is how people die,' while others accused Gatto of faking to gain the deduction. Barbosa's striking volume secured the 29-27, 29-27, 28-28 scores, boosting her UFC record to 3-1 as debates over safety and rules lingered.

Joshua Van Injury Delays UFC Title Defense Against Taira
The bout against undefeated grappler Tatsuro Taira shifts to headline the co-main event at UFC 328 on May 9 in Newark, New Jersey, preserving the highly anticipated clash on a card topped by Khamzat Chimaev versus Sean Strickland. Van won the belt dramatically at UFC 323 last December with a head kick that broke Alexandre Pantoja's arm just 26 seconds in, making him the youngest 2000s-born UFC titleholder and first Asian-born male champion. Fans reacted strongly, with some calling to strip the title amid Pantoja's recent weight cut video showing his readiness, though Van keeps the belt and the matchup stays intact.

Thomas Petersen Grinds Out Majority Decision Over Unbeaten Guilherme Pat at UFC Vegas 115
In a non-stop heavyweight prelim at UFC Vegas 115 in Las Vegas, Petersen outlasted Pat with relentless pressure and ground control to win a majority decision, 29-28 twice and 28-28 once. Pat started strong with power kicks and takedown defenses to take Round 1, but Petersen dominated Round 3 along the fence. The Minnesotan wrestler and diesel mechanic improved to 11-4, grabbed the mic post-fight to say he wants to see how far he can go, and now eyes bigger tests in the stacked division.

Yakhyaev Stays Undefeated with Quick Chokeout at UFC Vegas 115
The 25-year-old Turkish light heavyweight prospect survived Brendson Ribeiro's striking barrage before securing a rear-naked choke at 2:52 of Round 1 to open UFC Vegas 115 at the Apex in Las Vegas. It marked his second fast UFC finish, following a 33-second submission debut, keeping his record perfect at 9-0 with seven first-round stoppages. Fans praised his grip strength and grappling mastery, while noting room to improve his striking defense in the thin division.
