Just put on Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon and a wave of nostalgia hit me. I immediately remembered those endless afternoons spent typing down code listings from MSX computer magazines line by line, just to save them onto a cassette tape. Got inspired by the music and took this shot. Do you know when a feeling so comforting invades you that you feel like crying? #RetroComputing #MSX #PinkFloyd #VintageTech #CassetteCulture #MicroComputing

The double standard is real. They want to try to accuse us of being racist, while doing so blantently themselves. The issue has never been race, it is the incentive structure provided by the current culture, as well as the focus in higher education on indoctrination and diversity quotas instead of real education. America has lost the edge that made us the genesis of things such as microcomputing, the internet, and most of the advancements that laid the groundwork for what we have today. We need to take that back. That only starts with removing the bloat and coddling from the current education and university system, and cutting the culture war BS. Make school about education and not indoctrination, and that will be a good first step.

44 years since the ZX Spectrum computer launched in 1982,and created a whole new world of bedroom coders who would go on to make incredible games for this machine and beyond. Two legends who brought this piece of microcomputing history will never be forgotten: Rick Dickinson and Sir Clive Sinclair ❤️💛💚💙

I'm always amazed at what Laurent de Vilmorin wrote in the first issue of the french magazine L'Ordinateur individuel in 1978, he nailed many important topics archive.org/details/ord-ind-… "Personal computing is therefore a rapidly evolving world, affecting those who produce it, those who sell it, and those who buy and use it. Where is this evolution leading? We will start with the current situation, which could be described as "fun personal microcomputing." It seems to us that this will continue to develop steadily, but not spectacularly. Small systems are sold like science toys: for the fun of assembling and programming components. But it's likely that one day many more truly useful applications will be developed. These will undoubtedly lead to a transformation of the market, as buyers' motivations will become different and stronger. This will likely push developers to create even more powerful and user-friendly software. The sales pitch will increasingly focus on usability, rather than on the quality and intellectual appeal of the product, as is often the case today. We will then enter a phase of "useful personal computing." As software becomes increasingly valuable, the issue of its protection will arise, particularly against competition. Perhaps the most effective protection will be to abandon the concept of the universal computer and to specialize the hardware (which will then cost even less than it does now) around a specific application. We will then have entered a third phase that we could call "specific personal computing." Finally, we mustn't forget the upheavals that will certainly occur in this field when major telecommunications companies offer remote databases, nor the upheavals that giants like IBM, Japanese companies, and others will undoubtedly cause when they enter this market. Finally, components of personal computing that are not often discussed will one day play a leading role: these are all the encoders, micro-sensors, and microcontrollers through which personal information systems (PIS) will be able to penetrate the daily lives of people in their homes. Will personal computing exist in the form of domestic robots? Luxury toys for inventive adults? Will it be a mass medium with software interspersed with advertising messages? Will it be an extension in every home of an information system manipulated by the Big Brother of 1984?"

The most accurate futurist in world history is Ray Kurzweil. Amazing prescience.

🎤 While writing In the Shadow of the CPC, I had the pleasure of interviewing Jean-Paul Mari. We talked about the development of Shufflepuck Café and 500cc Grand Prix 2 on the Amstrad CPC, sharing memories, anecdotes and insights from that creative era of microcomputing.

Something that actually dives into the Science and Engineering that involes a Computer. Things like - ->Computer architecture ->Parallel computing ->Quantum Computing and it's actual feasibility ->the applications of microcomputing ->VLSI (Yes, it should fall under CSE as well) ->System and Consumer software ->the spirit and meaning behind LINUX and other Open Source Software and how it's not just a pathway to get a stipend like the way YouTubers put it out. ->OPERATING SYSTEMS (PLEASE) ->Hardware Hacking and Physical CyberSecurity -> Networking - and no, not the LinkedIn type and a ton more, I hope you get the idea. Basically, I'd love for an actual IIT Affiliated account to preach that maybe, just maybe, CSE is not just about app and web dev, Full stack, and the latest buzzword - AI. I would love to see it tell about what CSE truly is. Although it's for an IITian account so if my tier-69 college student opinion is not welcome, then fair enough.
What kind of content do you expect/look forward to from a CS/E department handle?

Much to the bemusement and occasional frustration of my wife, I calculate tips based on the interestingness of the numbers. My bill is $27.45? My tip will probably be $6.66. Or, it might be (and this is actually better) $7.11 because not only is that interesting by itself, but it then makes the total $34.56. As for the arithmetic, I start in my head and if it starts taking too long I whip out the old microcomputing communication device to sp-sp-speed it the hell up.

A new Retro Shooter heading for Kickstarter next Friday! Huey Games is launching a uniquely retro promotional campaign for its upcoming title, Hyper Sentinel Fusion, ahead of the game’s debut on Kickstarter on Friday, 27th February 2026 at AM (UK time). At the heart of the campaign is a collectible “floppy disk” — a nostalgic, USB-enabled throwback that blends 1980s microcomputing charm with modern functionality. While styled like a classic floppy, the disk will open to reveal a USB drive with the final playable game on it! Hyper Sentinel Fusion is a fast-paced, arcade-style shooter inspired by genre classics such as Uridium and Paradroid, reimagined with contemporary design and technology. Designed to celebrate the era when physical media defined home computing, the campaign aims to spark nostalgia among retro gaming fans while introducing a new generation to classic arcade sensibilities. There will be a wide range of rewards to get behind when the campaign launches at 9am on Friday 27th February. RIP Robert Tinney (November 22, 1947 – February 1, 2026), the artist famous for his playful covers for Byte magazine, a hobbist magazine that ushered in the microcomputing age from the mid-70s through the 90s. I'm honored to have included his work in my own art collection.
