Janos was well known for his scientific achievements in structural geology, microtectonics and salt tectonics and among the most cited scientists in the field. And he was also a very inspirational and, at times, challenging personality,

First post-covid flight. It sure has been a while. Off to Turin for a microtectonics course. Looking forward to some cool science (and Barolo wine...😍). Any and all Turin food recommendations are very welcome!

How do microtectonics scale up to seismic events on all magnitudes? Do the same processes apply to induced seismicity that apply to natural seismicity?
Let's move together between the scales and discuss at #EGU23 session TS 3.5

Plus, #quartz makes some amazing thinnies. All of these gorgeous specimens are from Passchier's collection, taken during a #microtectonics course at @OtagoGeology.
Really excited to be giving a (virtual) talk soon here. It's a great geochemistry conference, maybe the top in the world.

Shear zone in a phyllonite. Field of view is 4cm 😮
Mantled quartz porphyroclasts, S-C' shear bands, and colourful muscovite chlorite sericite mylonitic cleavage indicate a top to the left (sinistral) sense of shear.
