The ICMPD Secretariat Delegation Visits NCFRMI as Nigeria Assumes Chairmanship of the Rabat Process (2025-2026)
A delegation from the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) Secretariat met with the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) as Nigeria takes the chairmanship of the Euro-African Dialogue on Migration and Development (Rabat Process) for 2025-2026.
Hon. Tijani Aliyu Ahmed reaffirmed Nigeria's unwavering commitment to the objectives of the Rabat Process under the visionary leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He highlighted Nigeria's innovative initiatives, which have yielded positive outcomes for returned Nigerian migrants.
To promote regular migration, Nigeria has established the Center of Excellence for Migration and Humanitarian Development Studies. This national effort, dubbed "To Catch Them Young," provides a platform for young Nigerians to engage in debates, research, policy-making, and community engagement on international migration and mobility.
The ICMPD delegation was led by Jean Charles de Cordes, Coordinator of the Rabat Process Secretariat Migration Dialogues and Cooperation. As Chair of the Rabat Process, Nigeria aims to:
1. Strengthen Strategic Partnerships: Foster partnerships between Africa and Europe.
2. Advance Key Migration Priorities: Focus on labour mobility, youth empowerment, and addressing climate-induced migration.
3. Promote Inclusive Dialogue: Encourage safe, orderly, and regular migration through inclusive dialogue.
This visit reflects Nigeria's proactive role in fostering impactful Euro-African partnerships and advancing global migration governance.
