This was a total bunch of crap. Nobody recovered Dr Peterson lent credibility to mindbody. He should never have done that.

An underrated way of overcoming overthinking is by deploying Magical Thinking. There is nothing that breaks the spell of the "rational" thinking mind better than the counterspell of "irrational" thinking. An example of this is the use of a Magical Object to counter the tendency towards overthinking. One can buy - or better yet seek out in their environment - an object that they find magically inspiring. It could be things like a discarded bird's feather, a beautiful crystal, something made from the wood of a tree you love, or a ritual object like a cross or a vajra or a magic wand. When you find yourself over-thinking or find your nervous system over-loaded you can hold the object and feel yourself casting out the excess thought-energy or nervous-energy into the object. This method works so well precisely because it ruptures the logic of the thinking mind. The rational mind is something of a closed system which is why thoughts so often run around in endless closed loops. Introducing an irrational logic allows for an escape route from this loop. Having an object outside the body that you can place internal energy formalizes this escape route physically by showing a place the energy can go without just being circulated endlessly in the mindbody. The more absurd and fanciful this idea seems to your logical mind, the more likely it is to work for you.

A lot of overthinkers overthink because thinking is the only powerful feel of energy they feel connected to in their body. Often the solution to overthinking, is not to try to think less but to connect more to all the powerful internal forces available to us. There are fields of joy we can attune to in our bodies that make you feel like you have taken drugs. There are fields of always available pleasure available within us that feel as visceral as an electric current. There are tangible fields of peace within us that are powerful enough to make all thoughts disappear in an instance. There are a whole bunch of other fields and modes of awareness within us that are so exotic and rarely explored post-literate society that we don't even have words for them in English. Each of these fields are not just isolated bubbles of emotion that we can access when the right circumstances present themselves. Rather they can be experienced as tangible and always available spheres of consciousness that have the feeling of an electromagnetic field within us. Thinking itself is one of these fields. We can see this if we step back for a moment and tap into the energetic, electric sense of how thought actually feels to us beyond the concepts it conveys. But it is not the only field and it only feels that way because we habitually numb out the others. Contacting these other fields within us all starts by getting back in touch with our bodies. We have to be open to the fact that just as when you pay special attention to your head, this magical force of thinking can emerge, so too there are all sorts of similarly magical energetic forces nestled amongst our being. Some we will experience as within our bodies, some as outside our bodies and some that transcend any notion of inner/outer. For people who wish to stop overthinking, I would recommend that instead of asking themselves: "How can I think less? They ask themselves: "How can I become sensitive to and access all the other wonderful, vibrant fields of experience that are alive within me but currently blocked out of my awareness?"

in my experience, the mindbody motion of "rising to meet the thing" is itself somewhat curative. the answer is almost always to do the thing. i'm feeling a bit overwhelmed and cranky lately but expecting the same for myself
