神戸アイセンターは杉田直先生が開発した眼感染症の迅速な原因同定検査multiplexPCRをいち早く提供し、全国の病院から送られてくる検体を検査しています。 また、網膜色素変性の原因遺伝子を80個検査できるパネル作り、専門家のエキスパートパネル(遺伝子診断の体制)を確立し、遺伝性疾患の遺伝子診断で初めての臨床検査として先進医療の後に保険収載しました。この事により遺伝子診断が臨床検査として確立していることという厚労省の要求に応えて網膜の遺伝子治療(ルクスターナ)を日本に導入することができました。日本で網膜遺伝子治療できる２つの病院のうちの一つになっています。 再生医療だけでなく、様々眼科に貢献しています。
