I’ve began eating more healthy in 2026, due to my new medication Mounjaro. I only hate half of this, to my surprise. I never thought I would be on Mounjaro but as a Native fighting T2D, I suppose it makes sense. Here’s to healthier tomorrows! #nativehealth #type2diabetes 💪🏽🪶

I appreciate the sympathy and your prayers for my son! Thank you very much. But no, this isn't just "misguided policy" or DEA fear affecting everyone equally. IHS has a documented history of undertreating Native patients for pain due to racial stereotypes that Indigenous people are inherently "addicts." That's institutional racism, not neutral policy. My son is Native, post-major surgery, and the denial of adequate pain relief (switching to weaker hydrocodone, ER refusing Percocet refill) is part of that pattern. That pattern is just made worse by all the anti-opioid policies and propaganda out there. This disparity is real and documented in tribal health reports. It's racism, full stop. Thanks again for the kind words. #DontPunishPain #NativeHealth #PainEquity #PainCareCrisis #IHSFail

I've been quiet again lately because my 18-year-old son very recently (13 days ago!) had major spinal fusion surgery at Tucson Medical Center and was discharged on Percocet for legitimate pain control. His PCP at Sells Indian Health Service hospital and clinic switched him to hydrocodone without our knowledge or consent, without discussing it with me or my son — a weaker, inferior drug that causes severe dizziness and headaches and does not control his pain adequately. When pain worsened, we followed primary care team and ER instructions to return. The ER doctor refused to refill Percocet, citing "policy" because he "already got a script last week" (a very small one, taken as prescribed!!) and claimed "no more opioids this far out." This far out? He just had hardware placed, bone grafts, and muscle trauma 13 days ago — pain doesn't vanish on a calendar!! The doctor admitted the PCP and surgeon both don't want him on more opioids "this far out." For crying out loud, 13 days post major spinal fusion surgery for severe scoliosis is not "far out." Healing does NOT happen immediately, and untreated pain slows and sometimes stops healing altogether. This is nothing but a fear-driven denial of care rooted in pseudoscientific opioid stigma and institutional racism. Native patients on the rez are routinely undertreated or denied effective pain relief due to the stereotype that Indigenous people are inherently "addicts." This is not medicine — it's bias disguised as policy. Hydrocodone is failing him, causing side effects, and slowing healing/mobility. The ER doc hid behind "addiction risk" instead of treating the actual patient. This is neglect. This is discrimination. This is wrong. IHS and Tucson Medical Center BOTH must stop letting racism and fear override Native patients' recovery and comfort. We deserve real care, not excuses. @IHSgov @HHSGov @CDCgov @US_FDA @DrMakaryFDA @SecKennedy @SenMarkKelly @RubenGallego @WhiteHouse @POTUS @tmcaznews @hrw @UNHumanRights @CMerandi @Breelee420 @DavidESmitty @ChadDKollas @palliative @grok @Diabolical2099 #PainCare #PainCareCrisis #WarOnPainPatients #NativeHealth #DontPunishPain #SeverePain #AcutePain #ChronicPain #IHSFail #HealthEquity #PainAdvocacy #DEAKills #CrimesAgainstHumanity

RSV disproportionately impacts American Indian and Alsaka Native children. Luckily, vaccines offer the best protection against RSV. Recommendations for elders and babies can differ, so talk to your provider about your eligibility. @NCUIH_Official #NativeHealth

This weekend we joined the Lumbee Fall Festival & Fish Fry in Maxton, NC! 🍂🐟 Alongside the fun — 5K run, cultural demonstrations, gospel singing, and great food — we were proud to support the community’s health and wellness. 💙 ✅ We shared important breast and prostate cancer information tailored for Native populations. ✅ We handed out face masks, hand sanitizer, and COVID-19 test strips to help families stay safe. Events like this remind us that health equity is about meeting people where they are — in culture, in community, and in celebration. 🙌 #HealthEquity #NativeHealth #CancerAwareness #CommunityCare #LumbeeTribe #NMQF
