The Reading to Leeds trains were only running because of engineering works between Leeds and York. Its a standard alteration during Transpennine Route Upgrade work to make capacity for longer distance services to run via Doncaster. @CrossCountryUK Take note for future questions!

Looking at the timetable which started on 14 December, I can't see any direct trains planned to run from Reading to Leeds. crosscountrytrains.co.uk/tra… ^JM

There are engineering works taking place between Didcot Parkway and Oxford from 01 February to 08 February meaning we have a reduced timetable operating between these dates. Our direct trains from Oxford are not running. nationalrail.co.uk/engineeri… ^JM

On the date I looked at it was via Doncaster. What date in particular are you looking to travel? ^JM

Hi. The Reading services towards Newcastle are routed via Doncaster. This is the way these services are diagrammed, so if you were going to Leeds, the journey planner proposes a change in Birmingham New Street. ^JM
