A worrysome trend in American politics, is the spread of this idea that Greenland is interested in joining the US and evil Denmark is preventing that. Greenland wants complete independance from Denmark, not switching from being an autonomous part of Denmark to being a notautonomous part of America. Now I dont expect the crowd, whose political education comes from memes, to understand or care about the nuances of the relationship between Greenland and Denmark. But it is very scary to see how their messaging evolves along the lines, that it has among previous expansionist moovements. Russian rethoric around Georgia and Ukraine has evolved exactly along theese lines right until it invaded. I dont think that America is currently actually interested in invading Greenland. But if you are a politician who wants to do so in a couple of years and who will need to build domestic political capital for that, this is exactly the type of content you want your supporters, your pundits your underlings to spread.
