KALRO Katumani, through its Institute Director, Dr. Racheal Kisilu, hosted the Monitoring and Evaluation delegation from KOICA (Korea International Cooperation Agency) and Concern Worldwide.
The visit forms part of an initiative to combat food insecurity in Machakos County. With Concern Worldwide as the key implementing collaborator and KOICA as the donor, the project seeks to strengthen the production and adoption of Orange Fleshed Sweet Potato (OFSP) in the region.
KALRO Katumani has been playing a role in producing and supplying certified clean planting materials to farmers in the targeted sub-counties of Kathiani, Kangundo, Masinga, and Yatta.
The project focuses on significantly boosting OFSP yields to improve household nutrition and enhance food security among smallholder farmers.
Dr Racheal Kisilu emphasised the importance of long-term sustainability and urged all collaborators to engage stakeholders across the entire value chain actively. As OFSP production is expected to rise substantially, she stressed the need to bring on board marketers, buyers, and processors to ensure farmers benefit from better market access and increased incomes.
