More women are working, but are their sectoral and occupational choices expanding? The attached visuals highlight a concerning trend: rising occupational segregation amidst increasing women's representation across sectors over time. Between 2018 and 2024, the labour markets moved upward on both dimensions: female WPR increased, but so did the Duncan Segregation Index. In short, women’s employment is expanding, but sectoral pathways remain sharply gendered. Women continue to be concentrated in a narrow set of roles and industries - often those with lower wages, limited mobility, and weaker social protection. This isn’t just a labour market issue; it has implications for productivity, innovation, income equality, and inclusive growth.
