When the shit hits the fan…
Pro Tip #20: Build redundant power sources beyond solar and generators.
(Because “My solar panels and gas generator will last forever” isn’t a survival strategy.)
In a real collapse, solar gets stolen/damaged/clouded out, fuel runs dry fast, and batteries degrade. Grid-down reality means months or years without reliable electricity — yet you’ll still need power for radios, lights, medical devices, filtration, or night vision. Layered, low-signature backups keep you charged when others go dark.
Start now:
• Stock hand-crank / dynamo chargers, bike generators, and thermoelectric (wood stove) chargers that need zero fuel
• Learn basic battery maintenance and build a deep-cycle bank with LiFePO4 or lead-acid solar trickle maintainers
• Practice scavenging alternators from junk vehicles and micro-hydro/wind hacks where possible
• Master improvised batteries from raw materials: Use lemons, potatoes, or vinegar/saltwater as electrolyte with copper (pennies/wire) and zinc (galvanized nails) electrodes. Stack multiple cells in series for enough voltage to light LEDs, power a small radio, or charge USB devices slowly. Test now — each cell gives ~0.5–1V; 8–10 can run basic gear.
Power is leverage. Most preppers go silent after 30–60 days when their fancy setup fails or gets targeted.
