Over the Spring, we had the pleasure of welcoming students from Four County Career Center in Archbold, Ohio to GEM Inc. in Northwest Ohio, and it was a great reminder of why workforce development matters. About 20 juniors and seniors made the 50‑mile trip to tour our fabrication and sheet metal shops, connect directly with our pipefitters and sheet metal workers, and get a firsthand look at what it really takes to succeed in the skilled trades. The message was honest and clear: the work is demanding, it requires commitment, and there is always more to learn, but it’s also a career path that offers opportunity, stability, and long‑term growth. With many skilled professionals nearing retirement, the demand for pipefitters, sheet metal workers, and other trades continues to grow. These students saw exactly how multiple trades collaborate every day to deliver quality work safely and efficiently. Students Kaleb Stecher and Carter Mitchell shared how eye‑opening the experience was, especially seeing the sheer number of trades involved and how critical teamwork is to every project. Both walked away confident that Four County has given them a strong foundation and are excited about what comes next after graduation. The Rudolph Libbe Group of Companies moved up 10 spots, from No. 86 to No. 76, on the @ENRnews Top 400 contractors list by 2024 revenue. The trade magazine recently released its Top 400 list, ranking Rudolph Libbe Group No. 76 in the country with $1.731 billion in revenue in 2024, a rise from 2023’s revenue of $1.5 billion. Based in Northwest Ohio, RLG is also the second largest contractor in the state by 2024 revenue and was ranked No. 47 on the magazine’s Top 50 Domestic Building/Manufacturing by Revenue category. RLG recently completed a 2.67-million-square-foot final assembly shop, paint shop and body shop for @Ford Motor Company at its Ohio Assembly Plant in Sheffield, Ohio. The project used 18,000 tons of structural steel, 75,000 cubic yards of concrete and required 1.6 million work hours with more than 2,200 workers having on-site involvement. This week is National Apprentice Week and at Rudolph Libbe Group we are grateful for the apprentices we hire in all trades. We’re also grateful for the journeymen who patiently teach apprentices how to work with skill and in the safest possible way. We've had apprentices in just about every imaginable construction trade and we know the value of keeping the talent pipeline full. At Rudolph Libbe Group company GEM Inc. apprentice pipefitters Skylar Hartbarger and Justine Michael are the children of skilled trades workers. For Hartbarger, a third-year apprentice, the variety of work is the best aspect of the job. On any given day, he could be working on quarter-inch PVC piping up to a 48-inch carbon steel line. “You never know what you’re going to get into,” Hartbarger says. “It keeps it pretty interesting.” For Michael, she first tried college but soon discovered it wasn’t for her. At her dad’s suggestion, she applied for a pipefitter apprenticeship program and hasn’t looked back. Lima General Manager Rick Wallace says the new office is the result of the commitment GEM has made to our customers, the Lima community, and local trades workers. GEM had been leasing different properties in Lima over the last three decades and the new office and nearby fabrication shop marks the beginning of a new era. What’s next after high school? Some young adults have difficulty answering that question. @ja_nwo launched @my_5thyear to equip high school graduates with the tools and the experiences they need to succeed in the real world. Thirty-two 5th Year by Junior Achievement participants visited our headquarters in Walbridge to hear from our construction professionals about what their jobs are like and how they might begin a career in construction. They later put on hard hats, protective eyewear and gloves to tour the Lucas County Canine Care and Control construction site in downtown Toledo. The young adults asked plenty of questions about wages, skills and training needed, the variety of jobs in the field and the like. Rudolph Libbe Group congratulates @pentacareerctr as construction for its new E-Mobility Building gets underway. Penta broke ground for the new building on Monday with Ohio Lt. Gov. @JonHusted delivering remarks. Husted leads the Governor’s Office of Workforce Transformation, which provided a $2.4 million grant to partially fund the project. Rudolph Libbe will build the 15,135-square-foot E-Mobility Building with flexible options for instruction related to electrical, mobility and technology fields. Penta Superintendent Edward Ewers says training in E-Mobility labs will focus on career areas such as installation and maintenance of electrical infrastructure; emerging skills for automotive technicians; drone technology; and advanced air mobility. Yesterday our team along with @Ford Motor Company, Aristeo Construction and local trades men and women celebrated an important milestone for the Ford Ohio Assembly Plant construction (a 2.7 million-square-foot facility) in Sheffield, OH. The final beam was placed atop the structure after all those who contributed to the project signed the beam. The topping out celebration was attended by over 500 tradesworkers, subcontractors, project team members, engineers, architects, plant operations and leadership and support roles. You may have noticed the pine tree and American flag adorned on the beam in the photos and videos. This stems from an ancient Scandinavian tradition that has transformed into a symbol of growth, success and most importantly that the project is being completed safely. We would like to thank Ford Motor Company for the opportunity to partner on this project and thank you to everyone who has played a part in the success of this project to date. Rudolph Libbe Group would like to congratulate Lake Local Schools on the opening of its new elementary school in Millbury, Ohio. The district held a ribbon-cutting and community open house last week in advance of the school’s official opening today. The first thing students will likely notice is the air conditioning, a feature the old school lacked. But there’s plenty of other features in the state-of-the art school such as 20 more classrooms than the old school, a flexible area called the “Cafenasium” which can be used as a cafeteria, gymnasium and host performances and community events. The school also features sinks in all first-floor PreK-1st grade classrooms, lockers on the second floor for the fourth and fifth grade students, developmentally appropriate playgrounds, a library, dedicated music and band rooms and more. The Rudolph Libbe Group is proud to support the Ford Motor Co. at its Ohio Assembly Plant (OHAP) in Avon Lake in its quest to manufacture all-electric commercial vehicles. The project includes a 2.7 million-square-foot building that will house a new body shop, battery assembly and final assembly. The $1.5 billion investment is expected to bring hundreds of additional jobs to northern Ohio.
