Community service is important to me, so I'm glad to have been asked about it today. Here's a somewhat rambling rundown.
Since moving here in 2017, I've been involved at a couple different churches (concurrently), New Hope Presbyterian in Fishers and St. Peters UCC in Carmel, playing guitar on Sunday mornings at both churches, leading the tech team at St Peters, participating in community and statehouse activism for lgbtq folks, and working to make sure people who have faced rejection at other churches have a place they feel safe and welcome.
Online, I'm active in and admin a support group for survivors of religious trauma. This group is local but primarily support each other online, though we have had several meetups since the pandemic lifted at local coffee shops. Finally, since I deal with chronic migraine (15 per month), I've gotten involved with local disability rights efforts helping churches become more accessible to people with visible (mobility) and invisible (sensory) disabilities.
At the Fishers YMCA, I've coached one or another of my kids teams almost every season in either basketball or baseball. This last Spring baseball season my son moved over to Mudsock baseball, so I coached his team there.
I moved here to start a data consulting practice within a larger staffing and software consulting business, Onebridge, and grew the practice from 3 to 50 over 4 years. During that time I supported United Way corporate fundraising efforts and food bank distribution, supported Women in Tech and Queer in Tech behind the scenes, and led the local R User Group for 2 years. Currently, besides my day job, I'm a member at Launch Fishers working on a startup,
favorcon.com, a favor trading app designed for nonprofits as well as community and activist groups.
