In a strong display of unity and commitment to service, I had the honour of joining the wife of the Enugu State Governor, Her Excellency Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, in welcoming Her Excellency Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, to our beloved Enugu State. On May 28, 2025, I had the honor of hosting a remarkable gathering at my residence in Enugu, bringing together influential leaders from all corners of Awgu. Former council chairmen, current and past members of the Enugu State House of Assembly, commissioners, and business representatives united for a common purpose: the progress and prosperity of our beloved Awgu. The evening began with a heartfelt prayer led by Rt. Hon. Alex Ogbonia, setting a tone of reverence and collaboration. I expressed my deep gratitude to everyone for their unwavering support for our Governor, Dr. Ndubuisi Mbah, and emphasized the importance of unity in our journey towards sustainable development. On May 23, 2025, I had the honor of handing over a 300 KVA transformer to both the Agbogugu Autonomous Community and Mgbowo Community, along with an additional transformer for the local council headquarters. This milestone is not just about enhanced power; it symbolizes hope and progress for all of us. I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to our traditional leaders, community members, and everyone who has supported our vision for a brighter Awgu. 🌱 Transforming Agriculture in Awgu: The Smart Farm Project 🌾 As part of our commitment to advancing Governor Mbah’s vision for a grassroots agricultural revolution in Enugu State, I am proud to announce the launch of the Awgu Smart Farm project. This ambitious initiative aims to revolutionize our agricultural sector by actively engaging our community in modern farming practices. The Smart Farm project is a testament to our dedication to agriculture and agro-industrialization. By empowering local farmers and boosting food production, we are set to make a significant impact on the agricultural landscape of Awgu. At the heart of the Awgu Smart Farm is an integrated agricultural system where we cultivate essential crops such as cassava, corn, pumpkins, cucumbers, and watermelons using cutting-edge machinery. This approach ensures efficient and stress-free farming, paving the way for a more productive agricultural sector. During a recent visit to the project site, accompanied by A.C. Okonkwo, our Senior Special Assistant on Agriculture, I witnessed firsthand the innovative technologies that are transforming farming in our region. Mr. Okonkwo showcased various agricultural machinery and improved farming implements designed for easier and mass production of crops. Currently, we have over five hectares of land under cultivation with germinating corn and cassava, and plans are in place to expand this to over 100 hectares. In a bid to empower our youth, we are organizing a 2-3 week intensive Smart Farm training program. This initiative will equip young people with the skills they need to become self-reliant and gainfully employed in agriculture. Following the training, we will allocate portions of land to these trained smart farmers for various farming activities. I encourage our youth to embrace this opportunity, as farming is not just a means of livelihood but a powerful tool for job creation and poverty alleviation. The Smart Farm project is already showing remarkable progress, and we are optimistic about the potential it holds to create employment opportunities, enhance food production, and improve the overall livelihoods of residents in Awgu Local Government Area and beyond. Yesterday, I had the honour of commissioning a set of impactful community projects in Mmaku, Awgu Local Government Area—an initiative driven by one of our illustrious sons, Chief Dennis OnuagbaraOkorie of Otokwu Mmaku. These projects include: - Three functional boreholes, - A well-equipped security post, - Installation of solar-powered streetlights, - And 24/7 ultra-modern CCTV surveillance cameras. All these were executed in loving memory of the Late Chief Dr. Joseph Obasi (Omeluoha 1 of Mmaku), a man whose legacy of service and goodwill continues to inspire. I commend Chief Dennis OnuagbaraOkorie for his outstanding contribution to the development of Mmaku. His gesture is not just noble—it is timely and aligns with the developmental vision of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, who believes in community-driven initiatives and purposeful development. This commissioning marks the third time since my assumption of office that I have been privileged to commission a community-sponsored project in Awgu. Agriculture remains a key driver of economic growth, job creation, and food security, and we are committed to repositioning the Awgu LG Farm to contribute meaningfully to these areas.
