#US universities collaboration with Trump in the #repression of opposition to the #GazaGenocide --- MIT class president banned from graduation over pro-Palestinian remarks - World Socialist Web Site wsws.org/en/articles/2025/06… ... According to MIT spokesperson Kimberly Allen, the decision was made because Vemuri’s speech at Thursday’s OneMIT commencement “did not align with the pre-approved content” and that she had “intentionally and repeatedly misled Commencement organizers and incited a protest from the stage, thereby disrupting a significant Institute event.” Chancellor Nobles further stated in her email that while MIT acknowledges the right to free expression, Vemuri’s decision to “lead a protest from the stage” was a violation of MIT’s time, place, and manner rules for campus expression. In a statement, Vemuri contested this characterization, stating defiantly, “I see no need for me to walk across the stage of an institution that is complicit in this genocide.” She added that she was “disappointed” in MIT’s response, saying school officials “massively overstepped their roles to punish me without merit or due process.” Vemuri’s remarks at the OneMIT commencement event, where she wore a red keffiyeh in solidarity with Palestinians, quickly went viral. She began by praising her classmates for their courage in standing up for justice: You showed the world that MIT wants a free Palestine. Last spring, MIT’s undergraduate body and Graduate Student Union voted overwhelmingly to cut ties with the genocidal Israeli military. You called for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, and you stood in solidarity with the pro-Palestine activists on campus. You faced threats, intimidation, and suppression coming from all directions, especially your own university officials, but you prevailed because the MIT community that I know would never tolerate a genocide. Vemuri then directly criticized MIT’s ongoing research ties with the Israeli military: Israel is the only foreign military with which MIT has active research ties. Right now, while we prepare to graduate and move forward with our lives, there are no universities left in Gaza. Her speech received a mixed response from the audience, with some chanting “Free, Free Palestine!” and waving flags, while others remained silent.

𝐌𝐈𝐓 𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 The Massachusetts Institute of Technology @MIT prevented the 2025 class president from participating in Friday’s #graduation ceremony following her pro-Palestinian speech at a #commencement event the day before. In a statement, MIT did not name the student but confirmed that her remarks at Thursday’s #OneMIT ceremony deviated from the pre-approved script. University spokesperson Kimberly Allen stated that while the individual had a scheduled role in Friday’s #undergraduate ceremony, she was barred due to “deliberately and repeatedly misleading” organizers and disrupting the event by leading a #protest from the stage. The Palestinian Youth Movement identified the student as Megha Vemuri and shared her speech online. Wearing a #keffiyeh, Vemuri criticized MIT’s #research ties with the Israeli military, accusing the university of “aiding and abetting” Israel’s assault on Gaza. Since October 7, 2023, Israel’s military campaign has killed over 52,000 #Palestinians, drawing widespread condemnation, including from the UN. “As future scientists and leaders, we must support life, aid efforts, and demand MIT sever its ties with Israel,” Vemuri urged, receiving cheers and #Palestinian flag displays from classmates. She noted that Gaza’s universities have been destroyed and condemned MIT’s complicity, citing a #StudentVote to cut ties with Israel that faced “threats and suppression.” Vemuri invoked an #MIT tradition of turning class rings outward, symbolizing graduates’ responsibility to oppose injustice. Meanwhile, MIT President Sally Kornbluth, in her commencement address, emphasized #scientific thinking but did not address Vemuri’s case. Vemuri joins other students, like @nyuniversity's Logan Rozos, penalized for pro-Palestinian speeches. #NYU withheld Rozos’ diploma after his unapproved remarks on #Gaza. MIT has not confirmed whether #Vemuri will receive her degree. #SaveGaza #FreePalestine

The reports are accurate: Megha Vemuri, MIT’s Class of 2025 president, was banned from attending the undergraduate commencement ceremony on May 30, 2025, after delivering a pro-Palestinian speech at the OneMIT event the day before. MIT officials said her speech differed from what was pre-approved and accused her of misleading organizers and leading a protest from the stage, which they said disrupted the ceremony; Vemuri disputed this, calling the campus ban an "overreach" and arguing her remarks were not a protest.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) banned the 2025 class president, Megha Vemuri, from Friday's graduation commencement ceremony after she delivered a pro-Palestinian speech during an event Thursday. The university made the announcement on Friday without naming the student, saying that she delivered a speech at Thursday's OneMIT commencement ceremony that was not the one provided in advance.
This gross lack of self-awareness is a representation of the lack of self-respect and self-confidence. It is a sad commentary on our society and our educational institutions and the kind and amount of resources we put into them. No wonder many are willing to blow up this system from inside out.

"the speech delivered by a graduating senior at Thursday’s OneMIT Commencement Ceremony was not the one that was provided by the speaker in advance." Just another illustration of how the minions of Satan, in this case Vemuri, reflect his being the prince of lies. Link in comments.

Today (5-29-25) marks the last in a string of palindrome dates that began on May 20 (5-20-25) in the US. To mark the occasion, and in honor of the OneMIT Commencement ceremony, the Institute’s own Barry Duncan, a renowned palindrome poet and bookseller at the MIT Press Bookstore, penned for our collective enjoyment this entirely reversible ode to the Class of 2025 and our Commencement speaker.
