PDDNOS is not autism, it is just shy of autism. That's why it is PDDNOS. It doesnt meet autistic diagnostic criteria. PDA is debatable. Asperger's had it's own criteria. Why was it all subsumed into autism? Aaaaggghhhh

I feel the Aspergers diagnosis brought back, rename it whatever you want Autism L2&3 are still autistic but with another name, L1 were Aspergers, HFA, PDDNOS, give them all another name if you like but It should be redesigned like the epilepsies IMO. We should look to that.
I don’t believe in “the spectrum” anymore. Mass belief in something isn’t a substitute for evidence. Autism should be reserved for people with severe impairments.

🚨🚨 BREAKING: Elite Las Vegas private school eighth graders caught on video brutally R*ping a male classmate on a field trip and pinning him down, using a flute objects, punching him, and threatening to cut off his penis. Class president & golf champ Vaughn Griffith (15) filmed the whole thing on Snapchat and is now charged as adult. Second teen just certified as adult too.

I just wonder if this is like Autism something else? I am really curious if it is just autism a comorbidity, or if its some subtype of autism that doesn't get much attention? I know there are less well known subtypes, like PDDNOS

We used to have Childhood autism HFA Aspergers PDDNos Nobody lost their minds over that, it wasnt hard to differentiate between HFA and Asp (language issues before 3) and PDDNos (not quite the full autism), it wasnt hard at all.

Fundamentally, these got merged because the more people investigated, the more they found there weren’t clear dividing lines between them. I think the idea I have one kid who’d be diagnosed as PDDNOS and another as Asperger manifestly absurd.

I had someone demanding to know what my diagnosis was back in the day. They rapid fired Aspergers? PDDnos? My diagnosis back in the day was HFA, F84.0. It was then classified under "autistic spectrum disorder" because that's what was given due to DSMV. My kids the same. HFA.

To researchers this doesn't matter; many-to-one is the default hypothesis. You could reintroduce more granularity like before (e.g. PDDNOS) or you could say someone with Rett's is not autistic, but nothing is gained scientifically. You still observe behavior & development diffs.

Back in the late 90s early 2000s, if an afab child had the same amount of symptoms or worse than their male peers, they'd just slap on the PDDNOS label instead so the child would not get the same accomodations Now PDDNOS is a historic diagnosis that's considered autism spec

When can we expect trust accounts for our adult children with ASD-PDDNOS? Sue the ever-living daylights out of them! I remember like it was yesterday asking my pediatrician for a Birth to 3 evaluation- a mother knows. My son was 7 when finally diagnosed after 6 years fighting!

🌅 GM, beautiful souls! Start today whispering this to your heart: " I am exactly where I need to be, growing at my own perfect pace. My worth isn’t measured by words spoken, but by the love I give and the light I carry.” Let’s shine a gentle spotlight on the "non-verbal autistic" experience especially when ADHD, ADD, and PDD-NOS ride shotgun. Imagine your brain as a kaleidoscope: colors, patterns, and ideas spinning wildly, beautifully, relentlessly. For many of us: 🔹 Words don’t always come out loud, but feelings scream in technicolor through art, music, touch, or the way we light up when someone truly sees us. 🔹 Focus can feel like trying to catch butterflies in a hurricane one second we’re hyper-fixed on a passion project, the next we’re lost in sensory fireworks. 🔹 Social scripts? Often a foreign language. Yet our loyalty, honesty, and depth of empathy run oceans deep. We stim to soothe, we script to connect, we meltdown when the world overloads our circuits. And still we rise. We invent our own maps in a society still learning braille for our kind of brilliance. To every non-speaking warrior scripting their day on a tablet, every parent decoding a smile, every friend who learns "our" love language thank you. You’re the bridge. We don’t need fixing. We need space to flourish. Drop a 🌟 if you’re walking your own path today. Tag a soul who needs this reminder. And remember: "Different isn’t less. It’s legendary." #ActuallyAutistic #NonVerbalAndThriving #ADHDwarrior #AutismAcceptance #PDDNOS #MorningAffirmation #LETsDUCKINGBO #NFTsForAutism @SnoutZoo @SnoutBears @NeglectedLabs @UltraKingdoms @hopenetwork__

That’s simply because much of what is classified as autism today, wouldn’t be classified as autism 25 or 50 years ago. Asperger’s wasn’t even a diagnosis until 1990 (and it stood separate from autism until 2013). Same goes for Rett Syndrome, PDDNOS, autistic syndrome, and CDD.
