Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group Strengthens Partnership with the Islamic Republic of Mauritania
Nouakchott, 7–10 October 2025
As part of the implementation review of the Country Engagement Framework (CEF), a delegation from the IsDB Group led by the Head of Regional Hub of Rabat, Mr. Ahmed Aboubacrine, conducted a mission to Mauritania from 7 to 10 October 2025 to reinforce dialogue with national counterparts and align future cooperation priorities.
The mission began with meetings at the Governor’s Office to review progress in implementing the CEF and its main outputs and outcomes. The two parties discussed and agreed on an extension of the framework until the end of 2027 and identified new priorities going forward.
The delegation also met with the Governor of the Central Bank of Mauritania, IsDB Alternate Governor, to discuss avenues for deepening collaboration in support of the Islamic finance development, resource mobilization, and the ongoing country’s rating initiative.
Similarly, discussions with H.E. Mr. Sid’Ahmed Bouh, Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty, focused on advancing agricultural diversification—particularly in wheat and vegetable production—and strengthening industrial capacities for storage and preservation to boost food sovereignty and resilience. The Minister commended the IsDB’s “pivotal role in supporting Mauritania’s development efforts, reaffirming that the Bank remains “a strategic partner for Mauritania’s agricultural transformation”.
Besides, a meeting with H.E. Mr. Ely El Veirik, Minister of Equipment and Transport, provided an opportunity to discuss national infrastructure priorities, especially in underserved regions. The Minister highlighted the ongoing development of the new Transport Strategy 2026–2040 and called for the Bank’s technical assistance to complete this initiative.
The delegation also met H.E. Ms. Amal Mint Maouloud, Minister of Water and Sanitation, and reviewed ongoing IsDB-supported projects aimed at expanding access to safe drinking water and improving sanitation services across rural and urban areas. The two parties underscored the need to accelerate implementation to enhance citizens’ quality of life.
Finally, the mission was concluded with a knowledge-sharing event featuring business opportunities from IsDB-funded projects, and the Group's offering for private sector clients in the country. Representatives of each entity (ICD, ITFC, ICIEC, and the Institute) presented their products and services, as well as relevant advice on how partners can benefit from them.
Overall, this visit reaffirmed the IsDB Group’s commitment to supporting Mauritania’s national development agenda and deepening cooperation for inclusive and sustainable growth under the extended CEF.
