કેન્દ્ર સરકાર દ્વારા તાજેતરમાં 8th સેન્ટ્રલ પે કમિશનની રચના કરવામાં આવી છે, જે કેન્દ્ર સરકારના કર્મચારીઓ અને પેન્શનરો માટે વર્તમાન પગાર માળખું, ભથ્થાં, પેન્શન અને પ્રોત્સાહન સહિતના મુદ્દાઓની સમીક્ષા કરશે. છેલ્લી વખત પગાર માળખામાં ફેરફાર 1 જાન્યુઆરી 2016થી અમલમાં આવ્યો હતો, જેને હવે લગભગ 10 વર્ષ થઈ ગયા છે. આ સંદર્ભમાં National Federation of Indian Railwaymen (NFIR)એ કેન્દ્રીય કર્મચારીઓ માટે ન્યૂનતમ પગાર વધારીને અંદાજે રૂપિયા 60,000 પ્રતિ મહિના કરવાની માગ કરી છે. સંઘના જણાવ્યા મુજબ જીવન ખર્ચમાં વધારાને ધ્યાનમાં રાખીને અગાઉ લાગુ કરાયેલા ગુણાંક 2.57ને વધારીને ઓછામાં ઓછો 3.5 કરવાનો વિચાર કરવો જોઈએ. આ મુજબ 2016માં નક્કી કરાયેલા રૂપિયા 18,000ના ન્યૂનતમ પગારને 3.5 ગુણાંકથી ગણવામાં આવે તો તે લગભગ રૂપિયા 60,000 થાય છે.
