F-7 Photo Liberator, photomapping version of the B-24 bomber belonging to the 24th Combat Mapping Sqn, Gushkara, Bengal, 1944. The construction of Gushkara Airfield began after the arrival of U.S. Army Air forces in August 1942. This airfield was used as a Photographic Reconnaissance base for the Tenth Air Force during 1944 – 1945 which was heavily involved in the Burma Campaign. Other types operated from here included 35th Photographic Reconnaissance Sqn with F-5/P-38 and a detachment of the 426th Night Fighter Sqn with P-61.
The 443rd Troop Carrier Group of the USAAF at Dinjan Airfield in July 1944. Dinjan Airfield was built on an Assam tea plantation and opened in March 1942, with No 5 Squadron RAF and a squadron of Curtis Mohawk fighter aircraft. This unit's primary mission was the protection of cargo aircraft flying over The Hump from nearby Chabua Airfield to China. In 1944, 443rd TCG was co-located with 3d Combat Cargo Group, also flying C-47s and 427th Night Fighter Squadron which flew Northrop P-61 Black Widow.
