🌍📷 Empowering Youth for Biodiversity Conservation Action in Cameroon! Cameroon, located in Central Africa, is one of Africa’s most biodiverse countries, yet it contributes less than 1% of species occurrence records to global biodiversity platforms such as @inaturalist and @GBIF (Global Biodiversity Information Facility). Through our project funded by the @JRSBiodiversity (jrsbiodiversity.org/grants/i…), we trained secondary school and university students to document local plants and insects using the iNaturalist mobile app. ✨ This initiative has already generated over 4,000 biodiversity observations and more than 1,000 species recorded - a major step toward closing Cameroon’s biodiversity documentation data gap. Bees are responsible for pollinating more than 75% of the world’s flowering plants and about 35% of global food crops, from the fruits we eat to the flowers we admire, their impact is everywhere. But bees are more than just hardworking insects. They're essential to healthy ecosystems, biodiversity, and food security. As climate change, habitat loss, and pesticides threaten bee populations worldwide, protecting them is more urgent than ever. From the Peruvian Amazon to the savannahs of Uganda, or the heart of Ireland, we’re proud to work with travel partners supporting bee conservation through community-led initiatives. In the heart of the Peruvian Amazon, @AmazonDelfin and their Bee Queen Coin program is helping empower women in remote communities through sustainable beekeeping with native stingless bees, promoting biodiversity, boosting local crops, and offering a source of income and nutrition. In Uganda, @VolcanoesSafari supports the Kyambura Bee Keepers Co-Operative through training and sustainable honey production. Their beehives not only provide economic support, but also help protect farmland from elephant raids by acting as natural deterrents. And in Ireland, @CashelPalace has declared a Conservation Area for the endangered Native Irish Black Honey Bee, the last genetically pure population of its kind in Europe. The hotel’s historic grounds now offer a safe haven for this unique species to thrive, with rewilded meadows and restored heritage “bee boles” signaling a return to nature.
