🚢 Today is National Maritime Day — and it's one we take seriously at Ports of Indiana. Established by Congress in 1933, May 22 commemorates the 1819 voyage of the SS Savannah, the first steamship to cross the Atlantic Ocean. That moment didn't just change how people traveled — it changed how the world does business. More than 200 years later, maritime trade is still the backbone of global commerce. And here in landlocked Indiana, our three ports on the Ohio River and Lake Michigan are proof that you don't need a coastline to be part of it. Every day, commodities grown and manufactured in the Midwest move through our ports and into global markets — grain heading to international buyers, raw materials arriving to support Indiana manufacturers, and freight connecting our state to supply chains that span the world. Indiana's ports support 50,000 jobs and generate $8.7 billion in annual economic impact, driven in large part by the waterways that have powered trade for centuries. On National Maritime Day, we honor the mariners, industry professionals, and workers who keep that system moving — and we recommit to building the port infrastructure Indiana needs to compete globally for generations to come. To everyone in the maritime industry: thank you. ⚓ #NationalMaritimeDay #Maritime #Logistics #SupplyChain #PortsOfIndiana #Indiana #Trade #MerchantMarine

We hope everyone had a lovely Thanksgiving from the Port of Cork! 🇮🇪🤝🇺🇸 As our American counterparts celebrated Thanksgiving yesterday, we are grateful for the ever-growing trade ties between Ireland and the United States. Our partnership with Independent Container Line (ICL) brings Ireland and the U.S. closer through the only direct shipping route between Ireland and America—linking Cork to ports on the East Coast of the USA to serve and benefits businesses and communities on both sides of the Atlantic. We also recently signed a MoU with the Ports of Indiana, paving the opportunity to explore an express container service between Ireland and Indiana. Together, we’ll work on initiatives in economic growth, environmental sustainability, and advanced technology, which will help to build a brighter, more connected future for both regions @PortsofIndiana

The Port of Cork Company and @PortsofIndiana have signed an MoU to explore the development of an inaugural Ireland-to-Indiana express container shipping service and to collaborate on economic, environmental, and technology initiatives. 🇮🇪🤝🇺🇸 This would connect Cork with the only container service transporting entirely on water to the Chicago market, providing access to Cork via rail network to major logistics hubs on both the East and West Coasts of the United States. This development represents a strategic opportunity for Ireland to expand its trade presence in the U.S., unlocking significant potential economic benefits for the Irish economy. Ireland is currently Indiana’s top importer, with 2023 shipments totalling €19.3 billion ($20.9 billion). The main products traded between the both regions are pharmaceuticals and organic chemicals, which are key exports for Ireland and major imports for Indiana, home to global pharma giant @EliLillyandCo. The MoU was signed by representatives from both Cork and Indiana, including the Governor of Indiana, @GovHolcomb, and Indiana Secretary of Commerce, David Rosenberg, at a ceremony in @HayfieldManor yesterday. We look forward to welcoming the delegation from Indiana back to Cork in the future!
