🔹When I first entered the markets, we only had monthly expiries. Markets were far more stable & less volatile back then. Nobody boasted about buying hedges for selling positions, because naked option short positions were comfortably manageable with delta hedging. There were no surprise spikes or sudden dips or irrational moves- every move unfolded on a reasonable scale, giving participants ample time to adjust positions. Traders used to feel the real heat only on the monthly expiry day, when some typical expiry-day moves would usually take place. Those who entered post-COVID era may never have experienced this kind of market regime. Trust me, monthlies were much easier to handle than the daily & weekly tussle we go through now. So, even if something adverse happens to weekly expiries, don’t get disheartened. Monthlies still provide enough opportunities for disciplined traders. The key is to adapt without venturing into any unregulated spaces. -----Volatility regimes may change, but opportunities never vanish. 🔵 Last week expiry, I carried bearish positions into Monday, only to see Nifty gap up by more than 300 points against me. I was saved by my calculated position sizing & completely risk-defined setup. I exited those trades with just a small loss, shifted into bullish positions, & ended the week with nearly 1% profit. This week, I initiated bearish trades on Aug 21st (Thu), based on the daily bearish candle formation. Those trades are in good shape & the index moved down far beyond my expected levels. But I didn’t book out on Friday, thinking I could squeeze in some more theta & maybe catch a bit of delta move if the index stages a minor pullback on upside. But now, it looks like we’re set to open with a reasonably big gap-up on Monday (not just a pull back). I’ll only face trouble if the index trends steadily higher without any consolidation. ❌In hindsight, leaving a few trades open just to grab a few extra pennies might turn out to be a wrong decision.
