However, the majority of voters here are registered unenrolled/independent, we regularly elect moderate republicans for governor, and we’ve got an out of control gerrymandering problem leading to the most progressive areas electing the most extreme candidates to the legislature. The democrats in the legislature tie paid leadership roles and electoral support to ideological conformity. Step a single toe out of line and kiss your political career goodbye.
