Dr. J. Allen Hynek
Dr. Josef Allen Hynek was perhaps the most prominent American UFOlogist, working as an astronomy consultant for the U.S. Air Force in UFOs for over 20 years. He's the guy who developed the "Close Encounter" classification system, and even had a cameo in Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977). While he started out as a sceptic, he seems to have been moved to believe that UFOs were alien spacecraft and other associated phenomena, such as telepathy.
