Approximately 267 million people in India are tobacco users, with 28.6% of the population aged 15 and above consuming tobacco products. Among this demographic, 8.5% are teenagers aged 13 to 15, revealing a troubling trend that demands urgent attention. Keeping this in mind, under the National Tobacco Control Programme (
#NTCP) Efforts are being taken to keep school children's away from tobacco. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, has initiated the Tobacco-Free Educational Institutions (
#ToFEI) campaign. Under this initiative, it is mandatory to remove tobacco vendors within a 100-yard radius of all educational institutions. This ensures that all schools and educational institutions in the country can be designated as tobacco-free zones. Other than this
#DoSEL, the Government of India also initiated a new digital campaign called
#PromiseToProtect. Which aims to save students and youth from the harms of tobacco.
